Google は 2025 年 11 月 25 日（火）、Meta 社が展開するメッセンジャーサービス「WhatsApp」の Android 版「WhatsApp Messenger」アプリにおける「Google ドライブ」バックアップ機能の免責事項を公開しました。

Android 版「WhatsApp Messenger」アプリのデータは「Google ドライブ」にバックアップ可能なため、機種変更などでバックアップを用いた復元が可能です。ただし、5 か月間更新されていない「WhatsApp」バックアップファイルは、Google によって自動的に削除される模様。

この期限切れ自動削除も含め、ユーザー自身で削除したり上書きした「WhatsApp」バックアップファイルを復元することはできません。そして、「Google ドライブ」にバックアップされる「WhatsApp」バックアップファイルは暗号化されているため、「Google ドライブ」から中身を確認したり編集したりは不可。復元して中身を確認するには、Android 版「WhatsApp Messenger」アプリを用いるしかありません。

そして「Google ドライブ」にバックアップされる「WhatsApp」バックアップファイルは、もちろん「Google ストレージ」を消費します。今回公開された Android 版「WhatsApp Messenger」アプリにおける「Google ドライブ」バックアップ機能の免責事項では、これらの 2025 年 11 月時点の内容が公開されています。

IMPORTANT: A deleted, overwritten or expired Whatsapp backup is NOT recoverable by Google or WhatsApp.

While your WhatsApp backup is saved in Google, it is not something that can be viewed/restored via Google apps or websites because they are encrypted. Only WhatsApp has the key to decrypt it.

WhatsApp backup will use your Google storage that is shared with Google Drive, Gmail and Google Photos.

WhatsApp backup can be manually deleted via the Google One Storage Manager https://one.google.com/storage/management.

WhatsApp backups that haven’t been updated in 5 months may automatically be deleted by Google.

Every time you create a backup using the same Google account, the previous backup will be overwritten by Google. There’s no way to restore an older Google Drive backup.

How to delete whatsapp data

REMINDER: A deleted whatsapp backup is NOT recoverable by Google or WhatsApp, consider carefully before doing this. 

1. Go to the Backups section of the Google One Storage Manager: https://one.google.com/storage/management
2. Look for the WhatsApp backup in the list.
3. You’ll see its size and the option to delete it.
