In the Google Photos for Android app v7.54 update, released around Wednesday, November 19, 2025, a new template feature has been launched that makes it easier to create “Highlight videos,” a creative feature first introduced in October 2023.
“Highlight videos” in Google Photos is a feature where AI automatically edits photos and videos from trips or family parties to create a single “Highlight video.” It clips the best parts and automatically adds background music. However, the newly introduced “Highlight video” templates allow users to select photos and videos after choosing a pre-made themed template, such as “Autumn Vibes,” “Party,” “Anniversary,” “Travel Highlights,” or “Birthday Celebration.”
In other words, the templates allow you to create “Highlight videos” with a fixed theme.
The templates for “Highlight videos” in Google Photos can be accessed from the “Create” tab, which began rolling out worldwide in mid-October 2025. While this feature is currently available on the Google Photos app for Android, it is expected to be rolled out to the iOS version in the future.
