On Thursday, November 13, 2025, Google announced an expansion of supported file types for “Sources” as a new feature for its Gemini-powered research and writing assistant tool, NotebookLM (Google NotebookLM).

NotebookLM will now support adding Google Sheets files, shared URLs for Google Drive files, PDFs stored in Google Drive, image files, and Microsoft Word (.docx) files as “Sources” to your notebooks. Previously, you could add Google Docs from Google Drive, website URLs, YouTube video URLs, and text as “Sources,” so the ability to add image and Microsoft Word (.docx) files will significantly improve its convenience.

Incidentally, support for adding “Sources” from shared Google Drive URLs and PDFs stored in Google Drive is already available. The ability to add image and Microsoft Word (.docx) files will be rolled out in the coming weeks.
