Google Wallet Expands Bank Linking in Japan to Yucho, Mizuho, and MUFG

  • New developments have appeared in the “Bank Account / Money Transfer Service Integration” section within the HTML code of the “Check supported payment methods (Japan)” page on the official Google Wallet Help site.
  • The supported banks have been changed to “MUFG Bank,” “Mizuho Bank,” and “Japan Post Bank,” with the supported service now being “Account Linking and Money Transfers.”
  • This suggests that a new “Bank Account Linking” service may be introduced to the current Google Wallet, which already manages e-money, credit cards, passes, and cashless payment services.

Google Wallet, the Android digital wallet management service, is increasingly likely to expand with new transit IC cards (e-money) like “ICOCA” from JR West and “TOICA” from JR Central, as well as a new NFC touch payment section called “E-Wallet” featuring services like SoftBank’s “PayPay Money,” KDDI’s “au PAY,” and NTT Docomo’s “d払い.”

In addition to these, Google Wallet may also add a “Bank Account / Money Transfer Service Integration” section. On Monday, October 13, 2025, there was a new development in this “Bank Account / Money Transfer Service Integration” section of Google Wallet. Please note that this information comes from an analysis of the HTML code on the official Google Wallet Help site’s “Check supported payment methods (Japan)” page and is not an official announcement from Google or its partners.

First, the list of supported banks has changed from the previous “Japan Post Bank,” “Rakuten Bank,” “MUFG Bank,” and “Bank Pay-affiliated banks (Resona, Yokohama, Fukuoka, etc.)” to “MUFG Bank,” “Mizuho Bank,” and “Japan Post Bank.” Furthermore, the supported service has been changed from “Wallet Balance Top-up” to “Account Linking and Money Transfers.”

With “Rakuten Bank” removed from the lineup, the service for the “Bank Account / Money Transfer Service Integration” section has been clarified to “Account Linking and Money Transfers.”

This change suggests that a direct “Bank Account Linking” service may be newly introduced to the current Google Wallet, which already handles the registration and management of e-money, credit cards, passes, and cashless payments. This “Bank Account Linking” service in Google Wallet is expected to allow users to top up the balances of “PayPay Money,” “au PAY,” and “d払い” registered in the new “E-Wallet” section, as well as facilitate person-to-person money transfers.

In other words, Google Wallet is likely to undergo a major renewal to become a more comprehensive digital wallet service. We expect the lineup of supported bank accounts to change further in the future.

We will report again as soon as we have more information. Things are getting exciting.
