On Monday, September 29, 2025, Google announced the regional expansion of “Call Screen” and “Scam Detection,” features for the “Phone by Google” app on Google Pixel devices, which are already available in some regions, including Japan.
“Call Screen” is a smart call-answering feature for Google Pixel devices from the “Pixel 6” onwards and the “Google Pixel Watch” series. When you can’t answer a call, such as when you’re on a train or driving, Google Assistant asks for the caller’s information and the purpose of the call on your behalf. This “Call Screen” feature has now been expanded to Australia, Canada, and Ireland.
In Australia, Canada, and Ireland, “Call Screen” can be set to activate automatically, similar to in the US, in addition to the manual feature. Additionally, in India, a beta version of “Call Screen” supporting English and Hindi is now available exclusively on the “Pixel 10” series.
The “Pixel 10” series-exclusive beta version of “Call Screen” in India will be manually activated, with plans to support more languages and dialects in the future. Furthermore, a translation feature for “Call Screen” responses is also provided to assist Indian users who speak a different language than the caller.
“Scam Detection” in the “Phone by Google” app is a feature for Google Pixel devices from the “Pixel 9” onwards, where Google’s AI “Gemini Nano” detects text patterns in conversations related to scams and provides real-time notifications. “Scam Detection” was previously available in the English-speaking US, and has now been expanded to Australia, Canada, the UK, Ireland, and India.
