Google Wallet Finally Supports American Express in Japan

  • Starting in late September 2025, American Express cards can finally be added to Google Wallet (Google Pay) in Japan.
  • It supports adding cards not only on the Android Google Wallet app but also on the Wear OS Google Wallet app.
  • However, while it supports NFC touch payments, it does not support FeliCa-based QUICPay.

It appears that starting in late September 2025, American Express cards can now be added to Google Wallet (Google Pay) in Japan.

While American Express already allowed adding cards to Google Wallet for NFC touch payments (contactless payments) in countries like the United States, this feature was not yet available in Japan. However, it seems to have been quietly launched in the country from late September 2025.

Moreover, American Express appears to support adding cards not only through the Android Google Wallet app but also the Wear OS Google Wallet app. This is unlike JCB. Wonderful!

However, for American Express in Google Wallet, while NFC touch payments are supported, it appears that FeliCa-based QUICPay payments are not. Eligible cards include personal, business, and corporate cards issued by American Express International, Inc. (Japan Branch).
