Pixel Camera (Pixel 10): Gemini-Integrated “Guided Selfie”

  • The “Guided Selfie” feature in Pixel Camera, designed to assist visually impaired users, has been renamed to “Guided Shooting” on the new generation Google Pixel devices, the Pixel 10 series.
  • This renaming isn’t just a superficial change; “Guided Shooting” now supports not only selfies using the front camera (“Guided Selfie”) but also portraits using the rear camera.
  • With the integration of “Gemini,” “Guided Shooting” has evolved into a comprehensive selfie and portrait photography feature, encompassing the original “Guided Selfie” functionality.

The “Guided Selfie” feature, initially rolled out for the Google Pixel 7 series and later expanded to Pixel 6 and newer devices, is a default camera app enhancement within “Pixel Camera” aimed at assisting visually impaired users. This feature provides visual cues to aid in taking selfies.

However, “Guided Selfie” has been quietly renamed to “Guided Shooting” on the new generation Google Pixel devices, the Pixel 10 series. This change is more than just a name alteration; it signifies an expansion of functionality. Beyond selfies captured with the front camera, “Guided Shooting” now also supports portrait photography using the rear camera.

The integrated Google AI, “Gemini,” now plays a role in “Guided Shooting.” Under “Gemini’s” guidance, users can now take portraits using the rear camera. This integration effectively transforms “Guided Shooting” from a selfie-focused tool into a comprehensive feature for both selfies and portrait photography, incorporating the original “Guided Selfie” capabilities.

In conjunction with this renaming, new tutorials have been introduced. These tutorials provide detailed instructions on how to access “Gemini” guidance during “Guided Shooting” and how to take photos using the “Guided Selfie” functionality.

Interestingly, these features for “Guided Shooting” and its tutorials within the Pixel Camera app on the new generation Google Pixel 10 series were officially rolled out with the app version v10.0.081.808198566.40 update on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. The lack of an official announcement from Google remains a curious point.
