Google は 2025 年 6 月 24 日（火）、2005 年 6 月に提供開始されたバーチャル地球儀「Google Earth」の生誕 20 周年を報告しました。
というか「Google Earth」、本来は 2001 年カリフォルニア州マウンテンビュー設立ソフトウェア開発会社 Keyhole, Inc. にて開発された「Earth Viewer」が起源です。2004 年に Google が Keyhole, Inc. を買収しつつ「Earth Viewer」も取り込み、そして 2005 年 6 月にそれまでの「Earth Viewer」v2.2 から「Google Earth」v3.0 へとリニューアルし、そして提供開始。
「Google Earth」生誕 20 周年は、その「Google Earth」v3.0 から起算しての生誕 20 周年です。ちなみに 2025 年 6 月現在、「Google Earth」は v10.0 です。
Google は「Google Earth」の生誕 20 周年を記念し、過去のストリートビューも追加しています。
